Rev. John Diller began his ministry at Carmel in January 2023. He is a native Pennsylvanian, having grown up in the Lancaster area, attended Lebanon Valley College (B.S. Music Education) and later Lancaster Theological Seminary (M-Div.).

Abigail Vander Hart Palmisano

Organist and Director of Music

Abigail Vander Hart Palmisano is the Organist and Director of Music at Carmel Presbyterian Church. Abigail (Abby) is the organist for all worship services, director of the church’s four vocal choirs, and co-director of the handbell choir.

Leslie Arrowsmith

Director- Carmel Nursery School

In 2010, there was an opening for a certified teacher and Leslie became an official member of the staff. Leslie taught the 3-year-old class for two years and became the director in 2012 when the director retired. She has been here as director ever since.

Kathe Jaskel

Business Administrator

Kathe Jaskel started work as Carmel’s business administrator in April, 2023. She has worked in finance her whole career and obtained a Master’s degree in accounting from Holy Family University. She attended Archbishop Kennedy High School and received her undergraduate degree from Arcadia University.

Kathleen Hopkins

Church Secretary

Kathy has been a resident of Glenside for 29 years. She’ll be married to her husband, Bob for 30 years in February, 2023. She has 2 children, Bobby (27 yrs old) and Shannon (15 yrs old).

LEADERSHIP

THE SESSION

A local church is governed by the SESSION.  “The session of a particular church consists of the pastor, or co-pastors, associate pastors, and the elders in active service.” (G 10.0100) The session of Carmel Presbyterian Church is composed of up to 12 elders.  We elect four elders every year for a term of three years.  The session is responsible for the mission and government of a particular church. In 2007 Carmel Presbyterian Church moved to a “unicameral board,” which means that the Trustee work is accomplished by the Session.

2THE DEACONS

At Carmel Presbyterian Church the BOARD OF DEACONS is composed of 12 Deacons serving three-year terms with four elected annually. The office of deacon as set forth in Scripture is one of sympathy, witness and service. The deacons are the caring heart and arms of Carmel Presbyterian Church. They are ordained, like ministers of the Word and elders, and serve on the various committees of the church.

THE SHEPHERDS

Carmel’s SHEPHERDS  are an integral part of the church life as they help make preparations for worship, particularly communion. They visit and take chancel flowers to the hospitalized and homebound members of the congregation, and they are assigned to a district within the church, to serve that district alongside an elder and a deacon.
