But when Jesus saw this, he … said to them, ‘Let the little children come to me; do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs.’ -Mark 10:14

The Christian education of our children and youth is vital to faith formation at Carmel. We value children in our Carmel family and welcome their participation in the life of our church. There are a number of different ways in which we nurture the faith development of our children and youth.

SUNDAY NURSERY

Nursery care is offered during worship for infants to age 3 and also includes an age-appropriate lesson. Nursery care is also available during adult classes of the Sunday Education Hour from 9:00-9:45 AM by advance notice to the church office.

CHILDREN'S WORSHIP

Children from pre-school through third grade leave worship after the children’s message to gather in Carmel Hall or the children’s room, where we continue an age-appropriate order of worship. Scripture from the lectionary is read and discussed while the children enjoy a snack.
The “sermon” is a craft which focuses on the reading. We talk about kinds of prayer and practice talking to God. We also talk about what our “offering” will be during the week. Our “hymns” are simple well-loved songs, and of course we love to move and dance! We endeavor to share love and lessons of Jesus. Sometimes we share our love and creations with the congregation. The children also return to worship in the sanctuary for baptisms and Communion.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL

Carmel’s Vacation Bible School welcomes children from the church and community from age 4 through grade 5. Junior and Senior Highs are welcome as volunteer assistants. VBS is usually held during the last full week of July from 6:30-8:30 PM. Activities include a Bible theme, music, games, and crafts. Advance registration is encouraged and timely information provided on the website and Courier newsletter.

CONFIRMATION CLASSES

Youth in 7th grade and up are eligible to participate in a Confirmation Class conducted by the pastors to prepare them to make a decision on becoming church members. A class is usually held every 1-2 years depending on the number of youth interested. The class often includes an opportunity to visit other local worship sites and gain insight into a variety of worship beliefs. Some time is spent outside of class with a mentor of the student’s choosing. Confirmation classes usually begin in the fall and youth are publicly received as members in the Spring on Pentecost Sunday.

OASIS YOUTH GROUP 9-12

OASIS is currently being reorganized following members departing for college and the retirement of the group advisor. If you have an interest in this senior high group, contact the Church Office at 215-887-1074 or email office@presbycarmel.org

Anyone in grades 9-12 is welcome on Sunday nights at OASIS, whether you have a lifelong relationship with the Church or have never been to worship.  The group has typically gathered every few weeks for faith and fellowship.  Meetings have included discussion, devotion and prayer. Additional activities have included volunteer programs, worship experiences, and mentoring the younger kids in our CYM program.
