Deacons
“It is in giving that we receive, helping and supporting those less fortunate.”
The Board of Deacons is comprised of a diverse group of men and women ordained to directly serve those in need. Our goal is to inform the congregation about ways in which we can be compassionate and provide care for the needy.
To accomplish these goals, we organize blood drives for the American Red Cross, host a food cupboard which is delivered to local food banks, provide transportation to church events, provide casework within our congregation, are responsible for the College Revolving Fund (insert link) and provide as needed hot meals through Meals in a Moment.
Proceeds from our Mother’s Day flower sale and Swingin’ Summer Concert Series are given to local organizations, most recently Mother’s in Charge and Cradle of Hope. In 2008, we gave over $60,000 to organizations including the Norristown Hospitality Center, Chester Eastside Ministries, John Gloucester House, PresbyHomes, Teen Haven, Bethanna, College Settlement Camp, Interfaith Food Cupboard, the ALS Association, Cradle of Hope, Aid for Friends, Laurel House, Mothers in Charge, One House at a Time, as well as others.
In addition to financial support, throughout the year we host special collections of toiletries, socks, paper goods, toys, and household items for various organizations. Representatives from the groups we support speak to our congregation during Minute for Mission presentations which provide insight and a personal connection about their work.
