We are headed down to the Dominican Republic this summer (2011) from June 19th- July 8th to work with the community of San Pedro de Macoris, and the youth there who are suffering from hearing loss. We are partnering with the Foundation for Peace for our trip, and we have 18 people signed up!
Our trip will consist of three elements: 1) We’ll be helping to build a facility for children and youth who have suffered hearing loss. It will be a housing facility, enabling them to have a safe place to live while they receive education and training in different trades. The training they currently receive is helping to sustain their community by providing opportunities for their young people to become self-sufficient. 2) We’ll be helping to run a medical clinic during our trip. For many in the community, this clinic is the only medical care they receive in a year’s time. The Foundation for Peace partners with Dominican doctors to provide care to those who need it most. 3) We will be running a Vacation Bible School Christian Education day with local children. This is the most fun part for many of us- we’ll be able to interact with local children, tell our favorite Bible stories, and sing songs of praise to our heavenly Father!

$50 will buy concrete blocks needed for our worksite, $100 will buy construction materials and medicines for the community, $20 can help supply children with educational materials.
